PASR Goals for Chapters and YCPASR Activities to Accomplish the Goals

Goal 1: Expand/Improve Services to Others

YCPASR hosts a local social service agency at most membership meetings, and members donate to the groups. Also, the sock collection benefits the homeless in the area.
    • Increase Educational Grants
Each year, the Woodson Award is given to a county school district to recognize staff members.
    • Increase Social Services Memorial Honor Fund Services
The Social Service Committee reaches out to members in nursing homes at least four times a year with phone calls, personal visits, cards and gift bags. Memorial Honor cards are sent to headquarters for members who pass and for members who have passed.
    • Initiate or Expand a Project or Activity Alleviating Hunger
Members attending the Region 4 Meetings held twice a year donate food or money to the local food pantry. A chapter donation was sent to the York County Food Bank.
    • Promote Individual Giving to Memorial Honor Fund
Articles have been published in the chapter newsletter informing members that contributions are welcomed, and to notify the chapter when a member has a need.

Goal 2: Expand/Improve Social Opportunities for Members
    • Conduct and Publicize Chapter Recreo (Travel) Events
YCPASR Recreo is very active, offering day and overnight travel experiences each year. A Travel Meeting is held each fall to acquaint members with available trips for the next calendar year. There is a booklet describing the trips along with the information on the website.
    • Promote Participation in the State Recreo (Travel) Event
The Recreo Chairperson mentions the opportunities at membership meetings, and it is mentioned in the newsletter.
    • Develop and Submit a Plan for Chapter Activities
Emails are sent out from Recreo Chaiman to update YCPASR travelers with updates on travel plans There is a comprehensive booklet available and trip descriptions are available on the website.
Members are permitted to bring along a nonmember on a trip. Membership forms are shared on each bus trip. Often the nonmembers become members of YCPASR.

    • Conduct New Retiree Welcome Event
New members are recognized in the newsletter and at membership meetings. They are assigned to sit at a table with the membership co-chairs to make them feel more comfortable. Articles appear in each newsletter asking current members to extend a welcome to any new members who sit at their tables at meetings to include them in conversations.
YCPASR provides a diverse array of informative, entertaining and inspiring programs during the quarterly general membership meetings.

    Goal 3: Expand/Improve Information to Members/Non-Members
    • Distribute PASR Materials at PSERS Foundations For Your Future seminars
This activity is accomplished at the state level.
    • Establish and maintain a chapter Website/Social Media Site
YCPASR.org is an active website with a plethora of information about the chapter.
    • Conduct Both a Pre-Retirement and /or Post-Retirement Event
YCPASR along with the Adams County Chapter held a pre-retirement event in November 2023. Chairpersons also were present at a Lancaster Chapter event in the spring of 2023.
    • Present Lauretta Woodson Awards
The Woodson Award is presented annually at the Spring Membership Meeting.

    • Promote an Understanding of Legislative Issues
Numerous articles concerning the lack of a COLA appeared in newsletters; members have been given sample letters about the COLA to send to their legislators; information about the COLA is available on the website. Mark Krempa, Executive Assistant to the PASR CEO, and Kristen Holjes, Executive Director of PASR provided a summary of why the legislation has not passed in May 2024.

Goal 4: Expand/Improve Economic Benefits for Members

    • Increase Number of Members Logging onto PASR Website
The MB&S chairperson encourages members to check out the PASR website for more information.
The Recreo Chairman encourages travelers to view trips and download flyers for trips from the website.
Photos of prior trips are located on the website.

Goal 5: Grow and Strengthen Your Association
    • Recruit New State and Chapter Members
The co-chairs of the Membership Committee annually send out information about YCPASR to recent retirees and attend pre-retirement meetings.
A free event, “I Missed the Bus,” will be held in September 2024 to bring members together.
    • Computerize Membership Records
The co-chairs of the Membership Committee maintain a database of members, continuing to make changes to keep records up to date. Board members are made aware of any changes to the membership list to update their records.
    • Nominate a Volunteer of the Year
A small number of members log their volunteer hours and do not want to be recognized as the Volunteer of the Year.
    • Elect a Chapter President -Elect
YCPASR did elect a President- Elect in Spring 2024 who will begin serving as President in January 2025.
    • Help Maintain Membership Records
Recently, the Membership Co-Chairs sent out many letters, displaying interest in the lives of the Life Members who have not attended meetings in the recent past.  This outreach was well received and resulted in the receipt of several heartwarming responses to inform us of their activities and family information.  Updated contact information was shared for membership records. In addition, many of these members contributed to Scholarship and General Funds.
